Martin County 4-H Club News By JOYCE MILLER The only 4-H meeting held during the holidays was a junior and adult leader training meeting on record keeping. Slides were shown and discussed on filling out the "standard report form" and on compiling an over-all. record for entry in district competition. Those attending included Karen Wood and Patty Rackley of Indiantown; Mrs. Fred Roberts, Joyce Miller, Sally MacArthur, Patty and Mike Campbell of Hobe Sound, and Mrs.

Robert Hurley, Mary Alice and Karen Hurley of Jensen Beach. The first county council meeting of the new year was held on Saturday, Jan. 4, and the main program was a training workshop for club officers. Those assisting with the training meeting were Mrs. Rebecca Keller, county-wide music department of Martin County schools; Miss Betty Jane Stott, immediate past president, state Business and Professional Women's Clubs; Levi M.

Johnson, county agent, and Mrs. Mary Foster, society editor, Stuart News. The next county council meeting is scheduled for Feb. 1 and the program will be on building exhibits for the county fair. The Indiantown 4-H clubs held their monthly combined meeting Tuesday.

Junior leader, Patty Rackley, was in charge of the meeting. A skit, "The Wire's the Thing," was presented by members of the electric project group. Several 4-H horse club members from Stuart and Indian- town will be participating in the District 4-H Horse Show in West Palm Beach on Sunday, Jan. 26. This is being held in conjunction with the South Florida Fair, and will be held at the fairgrounds.

The Top Seven and the Leprechauns 4-H clubs met at the agriculture center Tuesday and made plans for programs and activities coming up in the next few months. They also plan to take down decorations put up for Christmas events at the center. On Monday night, the Hobe Sound Boys' 4-H Club met at the home of Pat Graham. The boys worked on the program for the joint business meeting the Hobe Sound clubs had. Teen leader, Pat Campbell, and adult leader, Mrs.

Fred W. Roberts, held a joint meeting on Monday afternoon. Pat is leader for the first year girls and Mrs. Roberts has the 8th and 9th grade girls. A demonstration, "The Art of Salad was given by Mrs.

Roberts. The new title of "teen leader" has been adopted state-wide for those 4-H members, 16 years old with at least three years of club work, who are leaders of their own club groups. The title of "junior leader" is used for 14- and 15- year-old members who assist adult leaders with 4-H groups, and older members who do not have club groups of their own. Club reporters throughout the county are requested to write a report of each club meeting and activity immediately after it occurs and send it to Joyce Miller at Rt. 1, Box 444, Hobe Sound, or telephone 546-5672.

Distinguished Engraver's Show Will Open at Elliott Jan. 13 Twenty-five outstanding examples of the art of Gladys Mock, one of this country's most distinguished engravers, will be shown at the Martin County Historical Society's Elliott Museum for a month, starting Monday, Jan. 13. Admission to the art gallery is free. Reading the list of honors before seeing the beautifully planned and executed etchings themselves prepares the observer for a towering personage.

Instead, this slight, modest woman listens graciously to the praise that is usually overlaid with frank astonishment at the authority of her engravings. In private life Mrs. Pierce Trowbridge Wetter, the artist, has lived for many years on Washington Square in New York City, where she is active in local cultural and community affairs. A director of the famed Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit, of which her late husband was a founding member, she is chairman of its staffing committee, and continues the family interest in young artists by the practical means of the Pierce Trowbridge Wetter Memorial Award in each show (there are two each year).

Coming to Florida for the opening of her Elliott Museum exhibition. Miss Mock will be the house guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. David Stern in Palm Beach.

A member, and past president. of the Society of American Graphic Artists, a director and vice president of the Audubon Artists. Miss Mock was for 10 years New York representative of the American Magazine of Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Miss Mock is a member of Pen land Brush, the club established by the late Ida Tarbell, for professional writers (pens) and artists (brushes) among whose members- women. by the way--are such names as Pearl Buck and Malvina Hoffman.

"Who's Who in America for 1967-68" records that she has exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D. the Carnegie International in Pittsburgh, the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts. the Chicago Art Institute, and the National Academy of Design in New York. AND MRS. RICHARD LEE YODER JR. Sheila M. Goff Is Bride Of Richard Miss Sheila Marie Goff and Richard Lee Yoder were united in marriage Nov. 9 in Cloverdale Heights Baptist Church, Marietta, Ga.

Rev. Alton Miller performed the double-ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. T. W.

Anderson Jr. of Kennesaw, and Grover C. Goff, Millington, Tenn. Parents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs.

Richard Lee Yoder Marietta, formerly of Indiantown. Grandparents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Jones Sr. of North Stuart.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a white floor-length gown of silk organza with embroidered flowers. The bodice had a scooped neckline with short sleeves and the natural waistline was accented by a satin sash. Attached to the full skirt was a chapel train. The shoulder-length illusion veil -was held by a crown of Grecian lace with crystals and seed pearls. She carried a Lee Yoder Jr.

crescent cascade of white carnations with ribbon streamers and ivy. She also carried a white engraved Bible, a gift from the bridegroom. Maid of honor was Miss Paula Goff, sister of the bride. She wore a floor-length gown with a light blue crepe skirt and bodice of dark blue velvet. She carried a colonial bouquet of yellow carnations with yellow streamers.

Miss Carol Yoder, sister of the bridegroom, was organist. She accompanied Mrs. Alton Miller of Marietta, who sang "The Voice That Breathed Over Eden" and "'The Wedding Prayer." Serving as best man was Steve Womack, Kennesaw; ushers were Charles Levinge and Randy Corley, both of Marietta. A reception was held in the fellowship hall of the church. A three-tiered white wedding cake decorated with yellow roses was on the bride's table.

Serving were Mrs. Vivian Le- MISS MARIE ANN CLEMENTS, whose engagement to Donald Ray Gilliam, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gilliam, Indiantown, is- announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Raymond L. Clements, Indiantown. The bride-elect and her fiance are graduates of Martin County High School The wedding will be held diantown, with Rev. Charles Clements officiating. No formal invitations are being sent; all friends are invited.

For her traveling outfit to Atlanta, the bride chose a sunshine yellow dacron dress with black accessories. Her corsage was a large yellow throated white orchid, a gift from her husband.

The couple is residing at 510 N. Fairground, Apt. Marietta. The bride is a graduate North Cobb High School of Kennesaw and is present employed as a librarian-clerk at Kennesaw Junior College. Her husband is also a graduate of North Cobb High School and is employed as a technician at Robbins Air Force Base, Marietta.

TB Group To Benefit From Circus Tickets for the 1969 Breath of Life benefit for the Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association of Southeast Florida are now available, Mrs. Stanley J. Grimail, West Palm Beach chairman, announced this week. The benefit will be the opening performance of the Ringling Br Bailey Circus, Jan. 22 at 8 p.m.

at West Palm Beach Auditorium. Tickets from $4 up, may be reserved by calling 832-7114. Frances E. Kotze Is Selected to Study in Germany Miss Frances E. Kotze, daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. Frank J. Kotze, Sewall's Point, and a graduate of Martin County High School, was selected by the American Language and Educational. Center of Michigan State University to participate in its accelerated German language study course in Cologne, Germany, this winter term. Miss Kotze, presently a student of the University of Florida, is a member of Delta Delta Delta Social Sorority, Alpha Lambda Delta (freshman women's honorary), and Angel Flight.

She is active in most outdoor sports as golf, swimming, skiing and horseback riding. The purpose of the AMLEC program is to enable a student to improve his or her fluency in the language while immersed in the culture and daily life of the country. Such programs are offered quarterly by the MSU continuing education service in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland. MRS. JOHN LEIGHTON JR.

Conant Norma Leighton Is Chosen Queen for Valentine Ball the permanent collections of the Library of Congress, the Metropolitan and the Smithsonian Institution- -any too many others, both private and public, to list here. Two medal of honor winners, "Imponderables" and Resurgence," will be included in the local show, as well as "One World" and "Imprint of the Skies," both of which have toured overseas in exhibitions of the United States Information Agency. "Upsurge," an engraving in color, to be seen here also, won the John Taylor Arms Memorial Medal and $100 purchase prize at the Audubon Artists national exhibition, and the purchase prize at the Hunterdon Art Center national print exhibit. The year 1969 marks the 13th year since the founding of Beta Sigma Phi in Stuart. On Feb. 8, Beta Sigma Phi will hold its 13th annual Valentine Charity Ball, Mrs.

John Leighton Jr. will be honored as Queen of the event. The selection of Queen is done by secret ballot. In choosing the Queen, members consider a candidate's contribution to the sorority as well as her ability to work well with other members. Leighton has been active in Beta Sigma Phi for the past four years.

During this time she has been program chairman and corresponding secretary and was "Girl of the Year" in 1967. Currently she is chapter vice president, and as such has been in charge of all "rushing" done by the chapter. Norma lives with her husband, John, in Palm City. They have two children, Dana Michelle, four, and John III, 19 months. This year's Valentine Ball will again be held at St.

Lucie Country Club. A seven-piece band will be under the direction of Carl Greco, with dancing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Donations are $10 per couple. This year's door prize will be a gift valued at $200, but the prize will not be revealed until it is opened by the recipient at the dance.

All proceeds from the ball will be donated to Martin County Historical Society to support Martin County's two museums, the House of Refuge and Elliott Museum. Lyons, Powers to Address Woman's Club January 15 Ernest F. Lyons, editor of The Stuart News, and Timer E. Powers, Martin County commissioner, will be the guest speakers at the Wednesday, Jan. 15 program meeting of the Woman's Club of Stuart.

The program will start at 2 p.m. at the Woman's Club building on E. Ocean Blvd. "Martin County Yesterday" will be the subject of Lyons' address. "Ernie" Lyons was born in Laurel, but has lived in Florida since 1915.

He has been with The News since 1931, but started writing for the home town newspaper when he was 10, as correspondent for the fourth grade. His weekly editorial page column has won a number of Florida Press Association awards including "First Place for Best Column" in 1967. He is the founding President of Florida Outdoor Writers Association and a member of Outdoor Writers of America, and a past president of Stuart Rotary Club. He is the author of "My Florida," published by A. S.

Barnes and -Co. An active conservationist, he was among the winners in the national Edward Meeman contest for newspaper conservation writers in 1965. "Martin County Today" will be Commissioner Powers' theme. Timer Powers was born in Miami Beach and received his B.S. from the University of Florida.

He has lived in Martin County since 1960, is president of the Indiantown Gas and secretary-treasurer of Indeeco, Inc. He was elected to the Martin County Commission in 1964, served as its chairman in 1968, and was re-elected to serve another four year term in 1968. He is past president of Indiantown Kiwanis, past president of the Holy Society of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, served on the Martin County Library board of trustees from 1963 to 1968, and as its chairman in 1967. Powers is a member of the board of directors of the Pioneer Occupational Center for the Handicapped and is Lieutenant Governor for Division 13 of Kiwanis. He received the Jaycee "Outstanding Man of the Year" award for Martin County in 1965.

This program is a presentation of the public affairs department of Stuart Woman's Club, directed by Mrs. Cornelius R. Vanderveer. Mrs. John DeCapite is chairman of hostesses.

She will be assisted by Mrs. Kenneth E. Griffith, Mrs. John Carle, Mrs. Allen Moore and Mrs.

Thomas Weiser. Non-members of the Woman's Club, men and women, are welcome to attend this program. There is a nominal guest fee for non-members. Plans Home and Garden Tour Jan. 26 Garden Club Meet to Stress 'Beauty Is Good Business' "Beauty is Good Business" will be the theme presented at the Garden Club of Stuart meeting, Monday, Jan.

13 at Elliott Museum. Ted Duncan Jr. of Tallahassee, public relations director of the Petroleum Council, will show films to illustrate the changing attitude of the petroleum industry in promoting service stations that appeal to the public eye as well as giving service. The Garden Club of Stuart is sponsoring a local contest with two classes, one for stations up to five years old, and the second for stations over five years. Local winners will be eligible to compete on a statewide basis.

Entrants will be judged in April. The Emco station in north Stuart, sponsored by Bauhinia Circle, was the county winner last year. Other films of interest are also planned. The "Home and Garden Tour," sponsored by the Garden Club will be held Sunday, Jan. 26, from 1:30 to 5 p.m.
